We all at some point or the other has used Google maps to find the location, distance and deciding the time taken to travel to those locations. Google has come up with a new service of sharing the real-time location with the person you want him or her to know. Google’s Real-Time Location Sharing would be helpful in many ways to the audience. But as we all know every coin has two sides. It may even happen that this new Google’s Real-time sharing facility may be really irritating or could be possibly a disadvantage in some case.
First of all let’s understand how the Google’s real-time sharing facility work. Once you start the Google map, firstly click on the blue dot that will be showing your location and the share your location option would show. Then you need to select the person with whom you want to share your location and also the time till when you want to share the location. Ideally, it allows you to share your location from 15 minutes to 3 days but you also have the option to continue sharing the location more than that. In such case, you would receive an email after every few weeks from Google stating that someone constantly knows your location day in and day out.
Once you share your location with someone, you get a notification stating that the location is shared with the selected person and you have the option to stop it anytime you want. Android users also have the facility to pin the location sent to their home screen so that constantly know where the other person it.
When we look at the positive benefits of this facility we realize it solves many of our problems and also saves us a lot of time. For instance, if you are meeting someone at a decided time, you know when the other person left and how much time it will take for them to reach you. It will also help you to show the exact path and direction in case you lost your way. It saves a lot of time without wasting it in waiting. Google’s Real-time sharing can be pretty useful in such cases.
But it can also be irritating if you don’t want the other person to know your location. Commonly in the case of parents who constantly want to track their teenage kids. Or in the case of an over-possessive and abusive partner who always doubts the other partner. It can even go worse with an abuser who is following you and might even go to the next worse thing happening.
